SENuke is a suite of applications specifically designed to help with niche research and backlink building.

It falls in to my top ten internet marketing tools category if you have a large portfolio of websites you want to promote and build links to.

If you have read some of our other blog posts on getting your website to the top of Google you will have started to gleam an insight into the process we use. How To Get Your Website To The Top Of Google

With Google being so dominant in the search engines wars, with over 85% of internet traffic coming via the Google search engine many people ask us how to get your website tot he top of Google?

For each search word, key word or search phrase there can only be one website holding the top spot. Bearing in mind that it is estimated that the internet has in excess of 200 million sites each with an average of about 240 pages you start to get an idea of the potential competition you may be up against for that converted top spot on Google listing.

But not every site is the same and there are millions of things you could use as your target keyword or keyword phrase for each page on your website. The art or science is to pick a word or set of words people are actually searching for that adequately describes what you have to offer and that you can realistically stand a chance of gaining the top spot for over time.

Gaining this balance is often difficulty and good keyword research is essential, many people think you only do keyword research for the home page of your site, you should do it for each and every page you want to rank in the Google listing.

Keyword Research

google keyword tools1 300x171Our keyword research needs to find us a term that describes what we have on offer, that people are searching for and where we could beat the competition from where we are currently. Let us assume we are a Grass cutter who also sells grass cutting machines, the grass cutting is a local business in Berkshire and the grass cutting machine business covers the whole of the UK.

There are a huge number of keywords and keyword phrases we could choose. For example Grass Cutter, Lawn Cutter, Grass Cutting Machines, Grass cutting Berkshire, Grass Cutting Slough (a town in Berkshire) etc.

How do we know which is best? We need to do our keyword research and first checkout how many people search of these phrases on a daily or monthly basis.  I can’t even keep count of the number of people who have approached us saying we will GUARANTEE to get you on the front page of Google. I could do this and even GUARANTEE a top slot, but it would be for a search phrase that no one ever looked for and it would do your business no good at all.

I suggest you start by writing a list of all the things you do in your business and the benefit they have to your customer, so for example, grass cutting, beautiful lawn.  This might be quite a long list but it will give you a great starting point for your keyword research.

You then need a good keyword research tool, if your budget is constrained start off with the Google Adwords tool which is free.  If you can afford it use a tool like Market Samurai or Micro-niche Finder, both of which are reviewed on this site.

What you are looking for is a word from your list or the suggest words that fits your business and has a decent number of searches. I usually do not target anything below 1000 exact search matches per month.

When you have a short list of words you then need to see how much competition there is for each phrase. Again if you are using Micro Niche Finder or Market Samurai this function is built in.

With Micro Niche Finder unless your site already has a Page Rank of at least 3 stick to the phrases with a green blip next to SOC, Search engine competition.

Next check the number of back links you would need to get on the front page, again in MNF click on MOB (measure of Backlinks) and in Mrket Samurai use the SEO Competition Module.

This will give you a clear idea of what you will need to do to get on the front page of Google for each of your potential keyword phrases.

Choose a phrase that you are happy to do the level of work required, i.e, build the number of backlinks required. Remember back link building should be slow and steady adding 20 to 30 links each week at least to start with.

When you have chosen you keyword or keyword phrases you have completed the first part of how to get your website to the top of Google.

Website content is the currency of a good website, the search engines do not understand pretty pictures, they evaluate and rank websites by the content on them and this largely means the words on them, the way you describe pictures on them and the places they link to.

Content creation should be considered a bit like writing a book.  The content needs to be your own, original and highly informative. Far to many websites are plagiarized version of other pages and the key search engines are doing all they can to down grade the importance of duplicate content on the web.

By far the best way to create unique highly informative content is ti sit down and write it yourself, but as we all know this is time consuming and not everyone can write good content, so what other options exist for content creations.

Content Creation Tools & Techniques

If you can not or do not have the time to write all of your own content you have several other options open to you these include.

  • Outsourcing
  • Guest Contributors or Writers
  • Content Creation Or Research Tools
  • Content Spinning Tools

Content Creation Outsourcing

There are a wide variety of places you can go to outsource the writing of quality content for your website or blog, some that I have personally used include E lancer, Text Brooker, Fiver, 99 Cent Articles & Seo Article Writing Pros.  In our review section we will review these and other content creation outsourcers in more depth.

Content Creation & Research Tools

Again there are a large number of tools that help with creating and researching content, probably the best free tool is Google. Using Google you can quickly find other articles and learn a great deal in order to write a completely original article.  This is time consuming.

Other tools we particularly like are the content module in Market Samurai and the Unique Article Wizard, both of these will be reviewed in more detail in the review section.

Both of these tools allow you to quickly identify information on any given subject and paste it into a single source for later editing and putting your own unique slant on.

Content Spinning

One quick way of gaining multiple unique versions of an article is to use a content spinning .  Content spinning tools take an article and allow you to fairly automatically change words within the article so the meaning is kept intact but the articles read as unique internet content.  This can provide a quick way of generating a good deal of unique content.

Backlink Checking

Back Link Checking

backlinkchecker 150x150Back links are links from other websites to pages on your website. Back link checking is one of the key metrics that Google and other search engines use to determine the importance of your site and individual pages on your site.

The more sites that link to any given page on your website the more important the search engines will think that pages is.

Theoretically, if you had two pages on lets say, green widgets and both had done an equally good job of on site search engine optimisation then the page with the greatest number of quality back links would appear highest in the search engine rankings.

I use the word “quality” advisedly as not all links are equal.  If you manage to get a link from a high page rank authority .edu or .gov site this is going to count more than a link from a low quality link farm or backlink bank or web directory.

Similarly a link from a relevant site on green widgets would count more than a site that had nothing to do with green widgets.

Many webmasters and SEO consultants make the mistake of creating links back to the home page or just to the domain.  This is not a natural way of linking building, when links are built organically, individual in context links will be built from deep in one site to deep pages in your site.

Backlink checking is one method to see how your site is progressing and there are a number of tools out there that will help you with checking the number of backlinks you have to your site.

Building Backlinks

With modern seo suites of tools it is relatively easy to create a high number of backlinks to your site in one go. This is a bad thing to do as it raises all sorts of flags with Google and other search engines.  If all of a sudden your site goes live and then has 10,000 links to it this looks very suspicious. Even the fastest breaking news stories appearing on respected news site like Reuters, CNN & the BBC do not grow links this quickly. It is therefore important to take a realistic approach to building and back link checking.

Reciprocal Link Checking

Many SEO consultants have in the past built reciprocal links with other websites, you provide a website site link to there site and they provide a link to yours.  This no longer seems to work as this form of trading seems to be largely ignored by Google.

Backlink Finding

Finding quality sites to get backlinks from is not always easy, ideally you want to start by finding sites that are related to the keywords of the page you are trying to promote and then use a PR checking tool to check the page rank of the sites you have found.  Then targeting the sites with the highest page rank you want to request a link or comment on a blog page in hopes to get a link back to your page.

Once you have built or requested the link you need to do inbound link checking on a regular basis to ensure the link is still there and current.

Building backlink and backlink checking should become a key part of any website owners, or internet marketer’s weekly routine.

Promoting your website and individual pages or post on your website is as important as building them in the first place, but building and checking backlinks is by far more time consuming.

Choosing the correct keywords is something you should do for each and every post or page on your website or blog and having the right Google Keyword Tools will make the job a great deal easier.

Keywords are the method by which search engines sort out what a web page or blog page is all about. As 85% of your traffic is likely to come from the Google search engine if you choose the right keywords and do your on site and off site SEO correctly, it is highly important that you find a method of select the best keywords for where you are at any given time.

Let me clarify this point, we all want to appear top of Google for the term with a the biggest number of searches, but if we are a new website, with little credibility and very few links it is very unlikely that Google are going to rank you very highly for one of its key search terms.

So we must pick terms where we can rank highly and these must be battles that we can win, competing against other sites of a similar statue in Google’s eyes to ourselves

We asses our site against other sites, buy a number of key dynamics, which Google nicely compile together into a quick and easy way to judge a site, this is the Google Page Rank. Ranging from 0 – 9 every site will eventual get some form of ranking. If your site has no ranking or a 1 or 2 ranking you will find it very hard to compete with sites who have higher PR.  It is a bit like fighting above your weight in boxing, not impossible but highly unlikely to win.

Page rank or PR is made up of many sub factors and Google never really tells anyone what goes into it, but it is likely it includes such things as, age of your website, number of pages in your website, number of backlinks to your website, including number of authority back links form .edu and .gov sites. There could also be many more things they consider and when choosing you keywords you need to understand who you are competing against and if you can actually win.

In these terms the definition of wining is getting on the first page of Google and preferably in the top 3 slots.

google keyword tools2 300x197A good starting place when considering keyword selection is the free Google ad-words tool.  You simple type in a keyword and it will tell you how many people search for it and what terms are associated with it and how many people search for these terms.

Best Google Keyword Tools

Although the free Google keyword tool is a good starting point you really want something a little more complete. When I say complete you really want to see how competitive each keyword phrase is and how good each of your competitors are when it comes to the sue of these keywords.

There are two tools I personally use and these are Market Samurai and Micro Niche finder, both of these Google keyword tools are similar, Micro Niche Finder is less complicated but less functionally rich, Market Samurai is more functionality rich and does a number of other things but is slightly more complicated.

Firstly let us define what we mean by SEO, Seo is search engine optimisation or tuning your web page so it will be found and ranked, preferably in a high position on the search engines.  There are a wide range of search engines, including Bing, Yahoo, MSN and Ask to name but a few.  But not all search engines are equal, Google is used by far more people worldwide than any other search engine and if you get your search engine optimization correct in Google’s eyes they are likely to bring around 85% of your traffic to your site.

Search engine optimisation can be split into two key areas, on page search engine optimisation and off page search engine optimisation.

One page SEO is all about constructing you page in such a way the key search engines understand what you page is all about.  This is done by a number of different means.

Each page or post on your website or blog should be centred around a single word or phrase that you would like that page to be ranked for. So for example I may be wrting this post hoping it will be ranked highly in Google for the term “Best SEO Tools”

You will note I have used this exact term in the title using the H1 tag, I have included the term in the first paragraph a couple of times in the main text and towards the end of the article.

I found all of these terms that Google thinks are related to our target keywphrase using the Goolge wonder wheel I have also embed the picture below giving it a file name and alt tag of our keyword phrase. Regardless whether we feel these words are linked to our keyword phrase Google believes they are linked and therefore we need to go with the flow of what Google believes.

We have also used our keyword phrase in the above heading which we have used the H1 html tag for. Ideally we do not want to repeat our keyword to often as this will be seen as keyword spam, a good range to aim for is 2 to 3% of the text you write as your keyword phrase. So if this post was going to be 600 words and our keyword phrase is three words we would suggest that you use your keyword phrase no more 6 times in the complete article, hence using the term keyword phrase rather than repeating what my keyword phrase is.

By now you will get the idea, pick a good keyword or keyword phrase, for more information on how best to do this see our Google keywords tools section. Then write your content around that keyword or keyword phrase, making sure you use the terms that Google thinks are realted.

You do not need a great deal of tools to write good articles that will rank well, make sure yor keyword density is never more than 3% of the article, use you keyword or keyword phrase in the begining, middle and end of the article and use bloding and italics to make sure the search engines know that you keyword or keyword phrase is important.

Include you phrase in the H1, H2 and H3 titles and include an image with the image name of you keyword phrase and alt text of you keyword phrase. Lastly link your keyword phrase back to the page that contains it.
